Alaska CPA ethics CPE questions

How many hours of ethics CPE do Alaska CPAs need?

Four hours during each two-year licensing period, within the 80-hour total.

Does the ethics course need Board approval?

No. Alaska does not specify subject areas beyond ethics and accepts programmes from NASBA sponsors, so a general ethics course qualifies.

When is my Alaska CPE due?

Licences expire on 31 December of odd-numbered years regardless of when first issued, except that new licences issued within 90 days of expiry are issued to the next biennium. The reporting period runs 1 January to 31 December biennially, ending in odd years.

Do my four ethics hours count toward Alaska's 80-hour total?

Yes. The four-hour ethics requirement sits within the 80 hours required for the biennial period rather than on top of it.

Does Alaska accept an ethics course from a NASBA sponsor?

Yes. Alaska accepts CPE credits for programmes offered by NASBA sponsors and does not specify subject areas beyond the ethics requirement itself.

What if I cannot complete my CPE in time?

There is no grace period for renewal and you cannot practise on an expired licence, but you may request an exemption by explaining the cause to the Board in a written statement before the reporting period ends.
