Connecticut CPA ethics CPE questions

How many hours of ethics CPE do Connecticut CPAs need?

Four hours every three CPE cycles, not every year. Some vendor sites describe it as annual; the Board, NASBA and the CTCPAs all specify every three years.

What subjects satisfy the Connecticut ethics requirement?

Any course covering ethical behaviour and an understanding of the state and national codes of conduct, professional conduct, and state licensing regulations. There is no mandatory Connecticut-specific course.

When is my Connecticut CPE due?

The reporting period runs 1 July to 30 June annually and the licence renews by 31 December. You need 40 hours in each annual period, and the online renewal system opens after 1 October.

When is my next ethics course due?

Within three years of the close of the licence year in which you last took one. Because it runs on your own three-year clock rather than a statewide cycle, keep your own record — the Board does not maintain or provide your reported CPE totals.

Is there a Connecticut-specific ethics course I have to take?

No. The requirement may be met through any course covering ethical behaviour and an understanding of the state and national codes of conduct, professional conduct, and state licensing regulations.

I hold a Connecticut licence but practise elsewhere — what applies?

You may show compliance by meeting the CPE requirements of your principal place of business during the last renewal. If that jurisdiction has no CPE requirements, Connecticut's rules apply in full.
