Georgia CPA ethics CPE questions

How many hours of ethics CPE do Georgia CPAs need?

Four hours during each biennial reporting period, of which at least one hour must relate specifically to the laws, rules and policies of the Georgia State Board of Accountancy.

Does a general ethics course cover the whole Georgia requirement?

Not entirely. Georgia does not pre-approve CPE programmes generally and accepts courses from National Registry sponsors, but the Georgia-specific hour is the exception: that course must be reviewed and approved by the Board. Verify any course intended to satisfy it appears on the Board's approved list before claiming credit.

Can carried-forward hours count toward my Georgia ethics requirement?

No. Up to 15 credit hours may be carried into the next reporting period, but carried-forward credits cannot be applied to the ethics requirement or the Georgia-specific ethics hour. Those must be earned fresh in each period.

When is my Georgia CPE due?

The reporting period runs 1 January to 31 December biennially in odd-numbered years, and the licence renews on 31 December of odd years.

Can I carry hours forward in Georgia?

Up to 15 credit hours may be carried into the next reporting period, but carried-forward credits cannot be applied to the ethics requirement, the Georgia-specific ethics requirement, the yearly minimum, or the technical requirement.

I was recently licensed — what applies at my first renewal?

If you were licensed less than one year before your first renewal date, no CPE is required. If licensed one year but less than two years before it, you need 40 hours including the four ethics hours with one hour of Georgia-specific ethics.
